With semi-arid to desert climates, less than 250 millimeters of annual rainfall, and over-exploitation of limited groundwater resources, the islands have faced numerous water scarcity challenges.

Since entering the desalination industry in 2011, LG NanoH₂O™ RO membranes have experienced rapid growth thanks to their breakthrough Thin-Film Nanocomposite (TFN) membrane technology. The Canary Islands began using NanoH₂O™ membranes in the same year they were introduced to the market.

“”We began installing the membranes for small sites like hotels and then started to learn where to install the plants,” says Juan Carlos De Armas, Director of Global Mega Projects at LG Water Solutions. “The pilots received excellent feedback from customers from day one regarding specific energy consumption and water quality.”

Furthermore, several SWRO pilots for potable and irrigation water drew positive feedback from the end-users, especially regarding boron removal.

Juan Carlos continues: “In 2013, we received the first significant order for a new project in Lanzarote V.
