NanoH2O™ UHP RO Chosen for Landmark ZLD Project in India

We’re pleased to share that NanoH2O™ SW 400 R and Ultra High Pressure RO (UHP RO) membranes have been selected for a new 2 MLD Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) project at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Barauni, in collaboration with Watertec Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. (New Delhi).

The selection of NanoH2O™’s UHP RO membranes for this project marks an important milestone for our advanced high-pressure membrane platform, reflecting growing industry recognition of its capability to address demanding high-salinity and high-pressure water treatment applications.

Designed for demanding high-salinity and ZLD applications, NanoH2O™ UHP membranes deliver industry-leading productivity and salt rejection, helping customers maximize water recovery while maintaining reliable system performance under extreme operating conditions.

Extending RO Performance for High-Recovery ZLD Applications

Zero Liquid Discharge systems are designed to maximize water recovery while minimizing liquid waste from industrial operations. As recovery increases, however, salts and dissolved constituents become increasingly concentrated in the remaining stream, raising osmotic pressure and making further water extraction more challenging.

Recent research into high-salinity wastewater treatment highlights the growing role of advanced membrane technologies in ZLD systems, including high-pressure RO technologies designed to extend membrane-based treatment into higher-salinity conditions. At the same time, scaling, fouling, energy consumption, and concentrate management remain key technical considerations as systems move toward higher recovery.

NanoH2O™ UHP RO was developed for these demanding operating environments. Engineered for operation at pressures up to 120 bar (1,740 psi), the membrane combines robust mechanical durability with industry-leading 99.85% stabilized salt rejection and high productivity. Its applications include industrial wastewater treatment, brine recovery, and ZLD/MLD systems.

By extending membrane treatment into highly concentrated streams, ultra-high-pressure RO technologies can provide another option for increasing water recovery and reducing RO concentrate volume before subsequent treatment stages.

Academic research on RO concentrate management has similarly identified membrane-based concentration as part of integrated approaches for increasing overall water recovery and reducing concentrate volumes in ZLD systems.

Expanding NanoH2O’s High-Pressure RO Applications

The IOCL Barauni project brings together NanoH2O™ SW 400 R and UHP RO membranes within a ZLD application, extending the application of NanoH2O membrane technologies into challenging industrial water treatment environments.

The project represents another step in expanding the application of NanoH2O membrane solutions in ZLD and challenging high-pressure RO applications.

As the project moves forward, we look forward to seeing our membrane solutions in operation and contributing to the successful implementation of the project.
